Introduction - Since 2nd May 2023, Manipur has been in turmoil due to riots. Several homes have been destroyed due to violence, and many people took shelter in relief camps. They are in need of food and other primary needs. Jnana Prabodhini - Solapur decided to help them. After collecting funds, on August 23rd, Mr. Anant Allishe and Mr. Shreyas Jahagirdar (Youth Leader) headed to Manipur from Pune via a 6:00 AM flight on August 24th, 2023. They carried out relief work there until the 27th August. Details of this mission will be described briefly.
Gnalaimol Camp - On the morning of the 24th August, they conducted a survey of the relief camps where displaced people were staying. On the 25th, they headed to Gnalaimol Camp in Churachandpur district to provide assistance. The roads were filled with an air of tension, with heavily armed police personnel stationed every 1 to 1.5 kilometers. They thoroughly checked our vehicle 12 times before reaching the camp. In every village along the way, women were standing armed with sticks and guns. They reached the camp site. The camp leader expressed surprise and gratitude, saying, "No one has come here in the last three months. You've come like messengers from the heavens." Another camp leader from nearby place reached there. Both camp leaders and our team bought rice, onions, potatoes, grocery and various other items from the shop.
Ankampat camp On the 26th of August, our volunteers visited Ankampat camp near Imphal, where around 1,000 people were residing. Many were enduring discomfort and hardships. From children to the elderly, all were deprived of essentials. We purchased needed groceries as per their need. The residents of the camp held a small meeting to express their gratitude for our assistance.
Pregnant women and infants - On that day, we reached the Youth Hostel in Imphal in the afternoon, where only pregnant women and women with infants were accommodated. Their needs were unique. Our team purchased items like blankets, nutritious food for pregnant women, babies’ medicines for newborns and grocery. This assistance brought relief and happiness to the faces of these women. A pregnant woman said, "You have fulfilled our needs like a guardian for our children." With these words, they tied Rakhi to us.
Jnana Prabodhini – Solapur helped these Manipuri brothers and sisters. Approximately 1,200 people were assisted in the first round. We have provided our contact number to all the camp leaders and asked them to call if they need anything. We are sincerely grateful for the cooperation of everyone.
